Game Recap
DALLAS 2, COLORADO 4

DENVER (Ticker) -- Joe Sakic scored twice and set up the
eventual winning goal early in the third period as the Colorado
Avalanche pushed their home unbeaten streak to nine games with a
4-2 victory over the Dallas Stars.

Sakic scored his 12th and 13th goals of the season and picked up
an assist on Milan Hejduk's power-play tally 79 seconds into the
third period. It was the sixth three-point game of the season
for Sakic, who has four goals and five assists in his last four
contests.

Jon Klemm iced the victory with a power-play goal, his third of
the season, midway through the final period. The offense was
more than enough for Patrick Roy, who turned aside 40 shots.

Roy thoroughly outplayed his All-Star counterpart Ed Belfour,
who stopped just 17-of-21 shots.

"I want to outplay Eddie but the win is the most
important thing for our team," Roy said. "It was a great effort
by the guys and somehow we found a way to win."

The Avalanche are 8-0-1 in the Pepsi Center since a 4-0 loss to
Phoenix on October 30. Colorado has also won four straight
overall and its 39 points lead the NHL.

Brett Hull scored his 13th goal and Jere Lehtinen added his
fifth for Dallas, which has dropped back-to-back games after a
five-game winning streak.

"We did a lot of good things tonight and we will win a lot of
games if we play like we did tonight," Stars defenseman Derian
Hatcher said. "The bounces did not go our way."

Sakic made it 1-0 just over five minutes into the opening
period. Nolan Pratt found Sakic in front and he was able to
redirect the puck past Belfour.

The Avalanche took a 1-0 lead into the second period despite
being outshot 12-6.

Hejduk, who picked up an assist on the first goal, set up
Sakic's second goal. Hejduk found Sakic between the circles but
Belfour stopped his backhand attempt. The rebound came back to
Sakic, who popped it up and just under the crossbar for a 2-0
cushion.

Hull got Dallas within 2-1 midway through the second period with
his first goal in five games.

Hejduk made it 3-1 with his 13th tally. With Jamie
Langenbrunner in the penalty box for cross checking, Sakic found
Alex Tanguay between the circles. Tanguay slipped a pass to
Hejduk, who one-timed the puck past Belfour for a 3-1 lead.

"The power play is going great for us and it is great to play
with Hejduk," Sakic said. "We don't want to change anything
right now."

"I felt there was a swing in the third period," Stars coach Ken
Hitchcock said. "They scored on the power play and we lost all
momentum. ... (But) we will win a lot of games if we play like
we did tonight."

Jere Lehtinen got Dallas back within a goal with 14:19 left but
Jon Klemm's third goal of the season, 3 1/2 minutes later,
sealed the victory.

Colorado is 4-1-1 in its last six regular-season meetings with
Dallas but the Stars have defeated Colorado in seven games in
the Western Conference finals in each of the past two seasons.
