Game Recap
DETROIT 2, DALLAS 1

DALLAS (AP) - Maybe this is the start of another streak for
Detroit's Tomas Holmstrom.

Holmstrom's first goal in two months, a power-play score in the
third period, gave the Red Wings a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars
on Sunday night and extended their winning streak to seven games.
He also assisted on the other Detroit goal.

"It just came down to working hard to the net and hoping to make
things happen," Holmstrom said. "It's always fun to play against
good teams like Dallas. We raise our level of play when we do."

The last goal for Holmstrom came Dec. 18, the last of a four-game
stretch during which he had seven points (three goals and four
assists). In 19 games after that, he had no goals and just four
assists.

Holmstrom scored the game-winner when he slipped the puck just
under Ed Belfour's stick with 14:38 left. Sergei Fedorov's wrist
shot was blocked and then Holmstrom tried a shot before scoring
on his own rebound.

Holmstrom also assisted on Nicklas Lidstrom's power-play goal in
the first period that tied it at 1.

"It's really been a long season and the fact that he didn't play
a lot in the first half was tough for him," Detroit coach Scotty
Bowman said of Holmstrom. "It's impressive how he's come back and
performed."

Chris Osgood made 22 saves for the Red Wings, 6-0-1 their last
seven games.

Joe Nieuwendyk scored on a penalty shot to give Dallas a 1-0 lead
at 6:02 of the first period.

The Red Wings, who have won five straight at Reunion Arena, took
the season series from the Stars 3-1.

Grant Marshall had a breakaway with just under 12 minutes left,
but his slap shot hit the right post and bounded away from the
net. While Osgood never got a glove on that puck, he survived an
onslaught of four Mike Modano shots in the second period.

"He made some great saves. That frustrates you and discourages
you," Modano said. "Everything's been going in for me, but
tonight I had a lot of bad luck."

Modano, who had four straight multipoint games, had three shots
in a matter of seconds midway through the second. Later in the
period, Osgood stopped another point-blank shot by Modano.

Belfour, who was 5-0-1 in his previous six games, stopped 29
shots.
