Game Recap
FLORIDA 2, DALLAS 0

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - While Mike Sillinger celebrated his
game-winning goal, Mike Modano could only wonder about missed
opportunities.

Sillinger and Viktor Kozlov scored in the final 5:34, and Roberto
Luongo earned his third shutout this season Monday night to lead
the Florida Panthers to a 2-0 victory over the Dallas Stars.
Luongo, who had 30 saves, including two dazzling stops on
third-period breakaways by Modano, recorded his fourth career
shutout to snap Dallas' four-game road winning streak.

"I didn't go up high enough," Modano said of the first breakaway.
"On the second, I figured I'd try something else."

"He (Modano) has high expectations," Stars coach Ken Hitchcock
said. "He's a frustrated guy. When you get frustrated, you lose
your emotion."

Florida, which won for just the fourth time at home, ended a
two-year, four-game losing streak to Dallas.

"It's definitely a confidence boost anytime you beat a team like
that," Sillinger said. "It's a do-or-die situation. Every game,
we need points."

Stars rookie goalie Marty Turco, who had won his last five games
as Ed Belfour's backup, made 18 stops.

Rob Niedermayer dug the puck off the boards and sent a cross-ice
pass to a streaking Sillinger, who swatted it in the far corner
at 14:26 for his ninth goal, giving the Panthers (9-22-8-6) a 1-0
lead.

"I saw an opportunity, went to the net, it ended up on my stick
and I kind of chipped it in," Sillinger said. "Luongo played a
great game. ... He stopped one of the best in the league on
breakaways."

Less than three minutes later, Kozlov, who has battled injuries
all season, scored his third goal. He capped off a 2-on-1 rush
with a wrist shot past Turco's glove side at 16:53.

"I tried to shoot it," Kozlov said. "We give away so many scoring
chances to pass. I took the safe play and I got lucky."

The Panthers, winless in their previous four games (0-3-1), ended
a three-game, four-night homestand 1-1-1 before embarking on a
five-game road trip.

Luongo preserved his shutout with a sparkling glove save on
Modano's breakaway during a Florida power play. Modano's wrist
shot in the slot with 16:59 remaining was swept away from the
left corner by Luongo's quick glove. At 11:41, Modano streaked in
only to be denied on a sprawling save by the second-year goalie.
