MODANO NAMED NHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NEW YORK (CP) -- Dallas Stars centre Mike Modano was named the NHL's player of the week Monday after recording three goals and three assists in three games. The highlight of Modano's week was scoring three goals in a 5-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. It was the fifth hat trick of Modano's career. Modano edged San Jose's Marco Sturm (3-3-6 in two games), Buffalo goaltender Dominik Hasek (3-0-0, 0.33 goals-against average) and Nashville goalie Tomas Vokoun (2-0-0, 2.00 GAA) for the award. Modano, playing in his 10th NHL season, leads the Stars in points (34) and assists (23) and is third in goals (11).
