Game #1: March 24/2000

On Friday, March 24th, The Hawks engaged in a battle against the 10th place Stars. These two teams have faced each other 3 previous times this season, with the Hawks winning 7-2 and 13-2, and the Stars winning 7-5. This was a battle for respect between the two teams, as the Stars hoped to even up the series at 2 games a team. They were unsuccessful, but the Hawks weren't successful in making the matches 3-1. This game ended up being a 6-6 tie game. This tie didn't give the Hawks any confidence heading into there next game. Here is a breakdown of all Hawks goals:

1. An excellent rush by Brook Szabo and Steve Eisler was turned into a goal as Brook rushed by two Stars defensemen and shot the puck, enabling Eisler to pick up the rebound and notch his first of the playoffs. 1-0 Hawks

2. This play was almost an exact replica of the first goal, and Brook Szabo took a picture perfect shot, and Steve Eisler got in front of the net and shot the rebound in for the garbage goal, but a goal non-the-less. 2-0 Hawks

3. Matthew Stone was next to pop home a goal for the Hawks, as he converted on a crafty pass by Greg Klein on a 2-on-1 rush. Stone put it right in the top of the net, and the Stars goalie had no chance. 3-0 Hawks

4. The next Hawks goal was all thanks to the excellent skating, puck control and shooting abilities of Greg Klein. With the puck in the Hawks end, Klein sensed he needed to get something done, so he passed it to Matthew Stone, who handed it off to Brook Szabo, who handed back to Klein, as Klein rushed up the ice, he went around 4 Stars players in the process, and cut over to the middle of the ice, stopped, waited for the Stars goalie to go down, then roofed it upstairs for the goal! 4-0 Hawks

5. With the score 4-2 for the Hawks, Greg Klein once again decided to take matters into his own hands. This time he converted on a Stars turnover and went in all alone on the goalie and with the traditional move he always does, slide it into the shell-shocked goalie with his deadly backhand shot. 5-2 Hawks

6. The combination of Brook Szabo and Greg Klein was working on all cylinders tonight, as Klein and Szabo rushed in 2-on-1. Klein had the puck, saw Brook Szabo, passed it over, and Szabo put it in the back of the net giving the Hawks a glimmer of hope, but it proved to be the last goal of this game, as the Stars came back to tie things up at 6. 6-3 Hawks
