Game 2 Summary: Vienna 68  Lee District 36

June 24, 1998 - The Vienna Warhawks 12 Year Old Boys County Select Team flew by Lee District in the Fairfax County Summer Basketball League at West Potomac High School last night with a convincing 68-36 victory.

The Warhawks led from start to finish in this one, but got off to a very slow start. Vienna only led 5-4 after five minutes into the game. With Vienna going with a 1-3-1 trapping defense, Lee District was doing exactly what the Warhawks wanted them to do, turn the ball over. Vienna could not finish offensively at the other end. The Warhawks finally got it going and went on a 28-6 run to lead at half time 33-10.

In the second half it was more of the same with Vienna extending their lead to win by the final margin of 32 points. Vienna again only had seven of the fifteen players on the roster due to other sports commitments, but each contributed in a big way. Three players, Derek Feussner, Brent Locey, and Stuart Rawlinson scored in double figures with 19, 14, and 10 points respectively. Brock Boone scored 8 points and lead Vienna’s defensive pressure with 6 steals. Daniel Pitcher scored 7 points and drew an offensive charge during the game. Mark Gentry scored six points and Kwame Safo scored 4 points. The Vienna coaches felt they had a height and speed advantage over Lee District going into the game. However, the Warhawks seemed to be in too much of a hurry going down court to score resulting in a lower percentage shooting night than normal. But due to their defensive pressure, they had plenty of opportunities on the way to scoring 68 points.

The Warhawk’s summer league record improves to 2-0 with the win. The next game is 6pm on Thursday July 2nd against Springfield at Jefferson High School.
