The Big Tymers
Joining the league of New Orleans-based rap outfits is Big Tymers, a duo comprising Cash Money co-owner Brian "Baby" Williams and local producer Mannie Fresh. The two met in 1992, and together with Baby's brother, Sugar Slim Williams, established Cash Money Records, one of the most successful hip-hop labels in the South. Baby and his brother Sugar Slim ran the business end of the label, while Mannie acted as in-house producer, often letting Baby contribute ad libs to his mixes. The two soon started collaborating in the studio and in 1998 they kicked out their first record, How U Luv That. The album sold more than 100,000 copies with virtually no promotion. It was re-released nationally later that year when Cash Money signed a distribution deal with Universal Records.
