The Prize
Jim, Tank, Carol, and Rose. As all four crawled to their seperate corners, each one watched the prize that awaited one of them in the center of the room.To Jim it was more than a prize, it was a way of life. He wanted it more than anything. Every inch of his body craved it, and secretly he accused the others of fraud, that they would somehow cheat and the advantage would be theirs. Sweat dripped from his head as he turned around. He was in his corner.
Tank worried that his weight, and relative slowness would serve a great disadvantage in this kind of competiton. After all, the prize would go the fastest, he or she who could get to what was so desired by all first. He must cheat to win. About face. Also in his corner.
Carol was the calmest of the three. She had just eaten a big meal, and the prize didn't fill her up with as much joy as it did the others, but she still wanted it. She wanted it so she could torture the others. Just knowing she won would be prize enough. She took a deep breath. The corner was behind her and she was ready.
Rose knew she was the fastest of the four, but still she worried. She worried more so about the start than the actual race. For in a sprint, is it not the one with the best start who has a major advantage? She thought so, and droplets of sweat covered her face, and could be seen through her shirt.
As all waited, the signal of uprising was given, or as some might say, the light turned green, and as all four pushed off the wall, it was Tank who looked to be leading the four. The four enemys. Rose being the quickest caught up and surpassed Tank in no time, and was a shoe in, if it hadn't been for her knee buckling beneath her. This gave an opening for Jim, who being quicker than Tank, but slower than Rose took over the lead. But this race wasn't over yet, for Rose was back up, and Carol kept a steady pace. Now all four reached the table at the same time, as all four grabbed for the coveted prize. How could they be so careless? Torn into four equal quarters was the prize! But all was not ruined, as the four frantically searched the table for a second . . . . sweater prize. Alas, it was no where to be found.
"Man . . . . no syrup?!!"
And all four dropped their fourth of an eggo waffle to the floor, and left the toaster on the table as they proceeded out the door.
There they were, the two, one, and three. Of course the two were together, as were the three, and the one alone. One of the two asked two of the three . . . "Excuse me Sirs, but do one of you two have five ones and one five for a ten?" At this, one of the two threes retorted to the one two with . . . "All I have is seven fives, and one one." The other three told the one two . . . "I have five ones, but not one five." At this the other three broke in and said to the other two . . . "Do you have one piece of gum for one of my two friends?" The reply from the one two was . . . "No, but I can go to Seven-Eleven and buy some gum for all six of us." The first two said . . . "Six? I thought we were five." The one piped up from across the room and said . . . "Then you have forgotten me sir, for three plus two plus one is six, whereas three plus two is five." The reply - . . . "So I must have forgotten one of us." At this the one pulled out one knife and stabbed the one two in three places within four seconds, while the other four stood and watched. The moral of the story? - Add or die.
2:00 - Ted stood and watched in awe as everything was set in motion. His anticipation was so great for such an occasion as this.1:57 - How could it be? He had just relieved himself an hour ago, and now his bladder worked up again. It just wouldn't cooperate. He would hold it.
1:43 - Ted let go.
1:38 - Any second now he would explode . . . . something had to be done.
1:37 - Ted held it again.
1:21 - Not wanting to miss the end, Ted decided for the best and hurried to John.
1:12 - Ted was at John's.
1:00 - Still at John's.
:46 - Ted had quite the bladder.
:24 - The return. He couldn't believe how much had happened since his last view of the situation. Things were really heating up.
:20 - Ted watched as substance fell from the apparatus. He couldn't wait.
:13 - Wow! That is all Ted could think of . . . . . . Wow!
:09 - Forgetting a crucial part in the operation Ted quickly grabbed about, finding what he searched for in no time.
:05 - Ted thought . . . . "Five seconds left!"
:03 - He wondered what it would be like after the event. Would the emptiness he felt be filled?
:02 - Ted thought . . . . "One second left!" . . . . . . . . he was wrong.
:01 - Now there was one second left. Ted's eyes gaped open . . . it was time!
Beep - He opened the microwave, and placing the Hot Pocket on a plate he left the kitchen in happiness.
At the bus stop we see seven people. Two are twins, as one has a red shirt and the other has a blue shirt. Four more stand behind the two in black suits. The other one isn't even there, but he asked me to mention him. The twin in blue says . . ."The red bus is late again." To which his reply from the red twin is . . .
"No matter. I'm waiting for the green bus." At this the one that isn't there says . . .
"What are you four waiting for?" The four stand and look at he who isn't there and all say similtaneously . . .
"Waiting for the mood to strike." So there they stand. The four waiting for the mood, the one not there, the red twin waiting for a green bus, and the blue twin waiting for a red bus.
"I'm cold," says the twin dressed in red, and he puts on his blue jacket. Convinced that he is also cold, the twin dressed in blue puts on a green jacket.
Three hours pass. The one man who was never there left, but no one seemed to notice since he wasn't there in the first place. The four men in black remain standing, as does the twin with the red shirt wearing a blue jacket and waiting for a green bus, and the twin with the blue shirt wearing a green jacket and waiting for a red bus.
Two more hours pass. The one that isn't there and wasn't ever there is now there again, but not really. He says . . .
"Here comes a blue bus." The twins look at each other. The four men remain standing still. The one leaves on the blue bus.
The mood strikes and the four leave.
Left alone the two twins waiting for red and green buses, wearing red and blue shirts, and wearing green and blue jackets look towards each other. It is getting dark, and a bus comes rolling down the street. It is black. The twins can't make out the color, board the bus, and are taken away.
