My Game 9 Report

The Flash lit them up!

The Flash dominated the Seals, and won convincingly 3-0 in front of over 3,100 fans!

The Flash looked great in the game. They really had San Francisco on the run. They were constantly pressuring the defense, and their goalie had to make some pretty good saves. And whenever they got into the Flash's end of the field, the Flash easily cleared them out. The Flash look like they're coming together, and I sure hope this can keep up, as the next two games are against Orange County and Seattle, who are 1st and 2nd in the division.

Antonio Robles scored two goals, and also hit another shot off of the goalpost. He was all over. He's slowly been playing harder and harder, and in this game he really came out. "Chile" Farias and Nate Hetherington also had some good chances. Really everyone played well. Wes Wade also impressed. He seemed to be reading the game well, and was in the right place at the right time again and again.

From the stands, we had a great time. I spoke with Yan Skwara before the game about making noise, because of last weeks complaints. He immediately got on the walkie-talkie to the head of security and told them to allow us to make as much noise as we wanted with our airhorns and drums. That was great of him to do that. We had lots of kids once again hang around the drum and airhorns, and they helped out a lot. Many of the kids participated in the "Schoolyard World Cup" games at halftime, so I'm sure they enjoyed themselves the whole game. This is good, I believe, as it will give them a good impression of soccer in the future, particularly pro soccer.

Another interesting item was the fact that before the game, there was another game between the Mexican Women's National Team against an all-star women's team from San Diego county. I didn't see the score, though. But after their game the Mexican team came and sat in out section. It was before I had set up our drum and airhorns. Once I got there, and started making noise, I got some interesting looks! After about 15 minutes, they left. I don't know if it was because of me, or if they had other plans, but ... I sure hope it wasn't me! All the team members I saw were certainly easy on the eyes! :-)

The THUNDER once again sponsored a 50/50 raffle, and we sold a lot more tickets this week, even though we didn't get the help from the PA announcer as we did last week. I guess we have to write them a little script every week, and not just rely on them to remember. And that's .... O.K.!

The most important thing is that the Flash seem to be playing well together, and they're able to put away some goals. We're on a 2 game winning streak, and hopefully we'll make it 3 next Saturday. We're 5-4 overall, and in third place in the Pacific division. So we're on our way!

This game will also be televised and broadcast Sunday on Channel 4 San Diego at 5:00PM, and in Spanish on channel 17 Sunday morning at 10:30.

GO FLASH!
