My Game 23 Report

A win in front of a huge crowd!

The Flash beat the 1997 A-League champion Milwaukee Rampage 2-0 in front of the biggest crowd of the season, at 5,226. It will be televised around the country as the A-League game of the week!

This was a really big deal for the Flash, because of the national TV, and San Diego came through! We had a big and enthusiastic crowd on hand to witness a really tight game, that was actually pretty closely played. In the first half, it seemed like Milwaukee had more possession, and more chances. But Joe Cannon was once again a "wall" and made some great saves, to keep the score 0-0 at the half. The Flash defense is really tough, and has come through time and time again.

This was also a physical game, with lots of yellow cards given out. I think, though, that since it was being nationally televised, the ref wanted to make sure he got a lot of time on camera! In the second half, defensive mid Kevin Legg was getting pretty upset with the goings on, and since he got a yellow earlier, coach Costas pulled him out of the game! It was generally a tough game. But to their credit, the Flash came through and scored two goals. Brad Smith scored one, and I believe Carlos "Chile" Farias had the assist. The other goal was in the middle of a skirmish, and I can't recall who scored it. But this team overall continues to impress week after week. They have the hearts of champions. They never give up, and they want to win. This is just great!

In the stands, the crowd was awesome! We had a big enthusiastic crowd that yelled and screamed and had a good time. I had a big crowd around my drum, and tons of volunteers to bang on it! The drum and the airhorns provided a lot of sound throughout the game. The samba band was on the opposite end as well, so I'm sure the game will sound pretty good on TV. I'm kind of curious to see if I got any air time myself!

After the game, I saw Kevin Wall in the parking lot. He announced the game with Rick Davis. I introduced myself to Mr.. Wall, and told him I've watched him on Fox. He seemed very friendly, and was able to talk about the European league games he's been covering. I mentioned I follow Chelsea in the English Premier League, and he was able to talk about the different signings they've had, and knew Chelsea lost to Coventry last Saturday. So while his broadcast style may be a bit irritating at times, he seems knowledgeable about his stuff!

I had previously thought this was the last home game of the season, but the Flash have one more, against the California Jaguars in two weeks, on Friday September 4th. After that, we'll probably have at least one playoff game at home. So there's still a chance for the rest of you to come down and catch a Flash game! See you here!

GO FLASH!!!
