DUBLIN, Calif. -- The San Diego Flash turned in its best performance of the early season last night, shuting out the San Francisco Bay Seals 2-0 on a 55-degree night at Dublin High Stadium.
San Diego's Nate Hetherington and Carlos Cruz each scored their first career A-League goals to pace San Diego (3-3).
The Flash dominated possession in the first half -- San Diego was in the Seals' box 16 times, compared to four for the Seals -- and that helped the team to a quick start.
On the first goal in the third minute, Eric Chaisongkram distributed a pass to Hetherington, who flipped the ball onto his right foot before hitting a low line drive past Seals (3-5) goalie Bill May.
The Flash opened up a 2-0 lead when Antonio Robles was fouled in the penalty box, and Cruz converted in the 32nd minute.
Flash goalkeeper Joe Cannon was not tested much throughout as he recorded the franchise's first shutout. He finished with one save on four shots. The Flash was credited with eight shots.
San Diego's next match is at 4 p.m. Sunday against the first-place Orange County Zodiac at UC Irvine.
