Flash Wins First Road Game in Overtime

Special to the Union-Tribune

VANCOUVER -- It was a night of firsts for the San Diego Flash.

In the first road game and first overtime game in franchise history, the Flash came out a winner.

Forward Antonio Robles put in the game-winner from 17 yards out in the seventh minute of overtime to give San Diego a 3-2 victory over first-place Vancouver in A-League action before 3,751 at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver.

Vancouver (3-2) scored 38 seconds into the game before the Flash defense could adjust without two of its starting defenders, Michael N'Doumbe and Noah Gins.

However, San Diego (2-3) regained its composure and controlled much of the rest of the match.

Former San Diego Sockers midfielder Wes Wade scored on a header on a cross from former La Jolla Nomad Jerome Watson in the 28th minute.

In the second half, the Flash's Eric Chaisongkram was fouled and given a penalty kick. Watson took the penalty, and it was saved by 86ers goalkeeper Paul Dolan, but Wade pounced on the rebound and booted it in for a 2-1 Flash lead.

Vancouver's Chris Franks scored in the final minute of regulation to make it 2-2.
