IRVINE -- The Flash definitely did not save its best for last.
In both teams' regular-season finale yesterday, the Orange County Zodiac edged San Diego 2-1 before 627 at UC Irvine.
The Zodiac (16-12), which got goals in the first half from Steve Patterson and Kevin Wilson, ended the Flash's winning streak at 10 games.
The Flash scored in the 70th minute when Brad Smith, off an assist by former La Jolla Nomad Jerome Watson, drew Zodiac goalkeeper Mike Littman off the line and angled a shot into the net.
Orange County defender Brian Engesser saved the game for his side in the final minutes by sliding in to kick the ball off the goal line.
The Pacific Division and Western Conference champion Flash (21-7) begin the A-League playoffs this week as the top-seeded team. San Diego's postseason opener is Saturday night at Southwestern College against an opponent to be determined today.
