Robles, Cannon carry Flash past Jaguars in shutout

SPECIAL TO THE UNION-TRIBUNE

SALINAS -- The San Diego Flash is proving to be no flash in the pan. The Flash (18-6, 54 points) won its 10th game in the last 11, defeating the California Jaguars 1-0 last night in front of 800 at the Salinas Sports Complex.

The Flash scored the only goal it needed in the 63rd minute when Antonio Robles took a pass from Nate Hetherington inside the box and put it past goalkeeper Greg Guzman from seven yards out.

Robles has a four-game goal streak and has 14 goals and three assists for a team-leading 31 points.

The Flash defense was stellar. Goalkeeper Joe Cannon made back-to-back saves on two point-blank shots in the 43rd minute.

The Jaguars (5-20) have lost 16 straight games.

San Diego travels to San Francisco tomorrow for a 3 p.m. game against the San Francisco Bay Seals and will return to Salinas for another game Tuesday.
