Farias' late goals carry Flash

San Diego Union-Tribune

ALBUQUERQUE -- Carlos Farias scored his second goal of the game on a free kick in the 89th minute to give the Flash a 2-1 victory over the Albuquerque Geckos in A-League play last night.

San Diego (12-6, 36 points) took a two-point lead over idle Orange County in the Western Conference's Pacific Division.

Farias scored his first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to tie the score 1-1. Farias was awarded the penalty kick after he was tackled hard inside the penalty box by Albuquerque defender Pete Santora.

The Geckos (4-15), who are last in the Central Division, opened the scoring in the 76th minute on a Luis Labastida penalty kick. The PK was awarded when San Diego's Christian Escalera was whistled for a handball inside the penalty box.

The Flash continues its road trip tonight when it plays the El Paso Patriots (10-10) at the Socorro Events Complex.
