PENRITH PANTHERS ![]() BRONCOS 44 defeated PENRITH 4 on Saturday 13-Jun-98. The following was posted to the Broncos mailing list on Mon 15-Jun. Well, the Sydney Based Broncos Supporters (SBBS) went along to Penrith on Saturday night, and as you could guess by the scoreline, we had an excellent time!! It was a pretty good crowd for a Penrith game (11,000+) and there must have been close to 200 Broncos supporters there. Actually, there were so many Broncos supporters, we didn't have enough newsletters/flyers to hand around.... There were 4 families of Broncos supporters sitting on the 30m line (on the left of the players tunnel), so the SBBS decided that this was as good a place as any to sit. We have 5 large flags and 2 small flags that we bring along to every game and we share them out to fans who don't have flags. We soon realised on Sat. night that we didn't have enough flags to share around..... (So Peta has kindly volunteered to make some more for the St George game.....) A few Broncos supporters from other sections of the ground saw us waving our flags and having such a good time that they decided they would like to sit with us. By the end of the night we had quite a large Broncos crowd within a 20m radius (about 30 or 40 people) and we were making quite a bit of noise (including some Lets go Broncos chants). We also met some people who had come down from Brisbane for the game (they must be big fans cause they also came down for the Manly game). The camera men ignored our rowdy bunch for the first half or so, even though we were screaming "Hey Mr. Camera man put the camera on us!!" But, by the second half they couldn't ignore us. I think we got on Pay TV a couple of times, in particular after Wendell's 3rd try (his second length of the field one). Look out for our vertical maroon, gold and white flags!! After the game, a few of us did our usual trick of hanging around the team bus... There was an usually big crowd waiting for the Broncs at the bus(50+), and as usual the most popular were Alfie, Wendell and Darren Lockyer. We got a few autographs and managed to have a few words with Kevin Campion, Wayne Bennet and Gordon Tallis. They were all very happy and even Bennet had a smile a yard wide. As the bus pulled away, most of the players waved and smiled (including Bennet). For those Sydney people who unfortunately missed out on the Penrith game, make sure you are at the St George game (Kogarah oval) on Friday 26th June. Peta will e-mail ticket/seating details once they become available. cya, jeanette. Last updated on 30-8-98 |
