Good to see two new members at Worksop - welcome to Mark Shaw and Penny Robson.
Well done to all competitors - see you all in the Cross Country series in January.

Congratulations to Jon and John who have both retained their respective titles after Clumber 10K. Lack of PBs on the day from challengers means that they can no longer be caught. Cheryl had already tied up her section but increased her points tally by shedding one of the early season 19 pointers and replacing it with a win.
Second and third in the Seniors is between Mark and Chris, with Mark as red hot favourite as Chris needs a winning PB at Worksop to overhaul Mark's current score.
In the vets Alan is safe in second spot but third place (between Graham and Brian) goes right to the wire at Worksop.

Congratulations to Cheryl on completing her first marathon in 4:35:23 - well done. Cheryl had already won the ladies competition but becomes the first lady to complete a GP marathon for .. a lot of years! Hope there are many more to come.
In the Senior event Will and Chris battled it out finishing within 10 minutes of one another - not a lot in 26 miles. Well done to both, especially Will who clipped more than 13 minutes off his PB - nearly half a minute a mile.
(As for the vets - well we are either too old, fat, slow or sensible to turn up these days).
I have used the chip times for the results - we need a decision for the future on this - what happens if you beat someone on the day but they have a better 'chip' time? One for the AGM perhaps.
John
Well done to everyone on a mentally tough course

Five Hogs turned out for the Spire 10 in Chesterfield - Likely prize winners are a bit clearer but not settled by any means!!!
Jon came in first in the seniors (followed by Will) and takes over top spot - but - unlikely as it may be - a combination of late season wins and PBs means that he can still be overtaken by Mark and Chris. Will could still make second place.
Same story in the Vets. John led home Alan and Graham and takes over top spot in this category - but - Alan can still win and Graham, Brian and Paul can pinch second place. Don't change the scoring system!!!.
No show from ladies winner Cheryl as she is winding down for Nottingham - GOOD LUCK!
Please check my scoring on the spreadsheet as we are now approaching prize time - any mistakes / omissions let me know.
John
Jon and Will ran pretty close to the top of their game here. Well done.

Seniors
A new leader with Mark Woodhouse taking over top spot despite being beaten by Jon on the day. Chris drops to third as the 8 event rule takes effect. This event is still far from over with any of the top four still able to win - some permutations are unlikely but still mathematically possible!
Vets
John led home the field followed by Brian, Alan and Graham. (Looks like Steve Bradbury could be a threat for the future if he joins the Club). No change in the overall order with Alan still in front - 8 counting races completed now though so watch this space!
With four races at four distances still to go any of the top seven can still get amongst the prizes. Realistically it looks like the three prizes will be divided amongst the current top four with John looking favourite if persistent injury can be avoided for one more event.
Brian's indian summer continues!

A reasonable turn out of seven Hogs at Askern 10 on Sunday with most of the leading players putting in an appearance.
In the seniors the top three finished in form order with Jon leading home Mark and Chris. Chris's extra race means he holds on to top spot in the GP - but for how much longer now that he has all 8 races in? Some late season PBs would help his cause.
In the Vets a no show from me (John) means that Alan takes over at the top of the table by virtue of an extra race. Brian led the vets home on the day with a time more than five minutes quicker than his previous best for the season at Barrow - well done. Graham came in third trailing Alan by just a few seconds.
Cheryl tightened her grip on the ladies event. Our only lady runner, she was just slower than the Barrow event. This competition is reaching the stage where only PBs from others could prevent her from taking the shield.
Jon
Brian improves significantly here, and "Stopwatch" records his 3rd 169 this season, to equal his season's best.

Another good turn out with seven Hogs making an appearance at Barrow 10.
First in the seniors was Mark Woodhouse with Chris Horsfall chasing him home. A no show from current favourite Jon means that Chris will hold top spot for at least one more event.
In the vets another under par performance from me was still enough (just) to finish in front of Cheryl (our only lady on the day) and the rest of the vet field - Alan, Brian and Graham in that order.
Cheryl's performance is significant in that she has now raced at four distances and is red hot favourite for the ladies title this year. Well done!
See you all at Askern on August 14th.
John
Asessing performances by speedratings, only Mark"stopwatch"Woodhouse and Chris ran up to their current form.

Perfect racing conditions made for some more good times in the final South Yorkshire Road Race League Event. It was plain sailing for Jon in the Seniors, Chris was back in top form and Ian picked up a useful 18 pts with a season's best. Dave "sicknote" made a rare appearance to take the vets race, with John clear in second place. Alan and Brian are improving as the season goes on. Cheryl continues to improve at a rapid rate and beat former ladies champion Anne Beresford, with Gail in third.

Another strong turn out for this perfectly flat 2 lap race around the lakes. For some reason the seniors were a bit on the slow side, and maybe the course was long? However some fine times from the Vets and Ladies sections doesn't bear this out. Chris leads the seniors, but will have his work cut out to beat the first 3 in this event. Some good times in the Vets, with the remarkable Brian Bean scoring his 3rd 99 on the trot. John Dix looks to have his 4th title sewn up and Paul is favourite for 2nd place with Alan Burgess clear in third. Cheryl was the sole runner in the Ladies, but that didn't prevent her from putting in a vastly improved effort, to be well clear of her rivals.

Chris has made it to first place by virtue of races run with Jon hot on his heels. Mark is still in the frame with Will PB Bridgman chasing him.
Alan maintains his advantage in the vets chased by Paul and me - followed by a pack of over 60s - all with 50 odd points.
Cheryl leads in the ladies chased by Helen with Lisa and Anne tied in third

After this event, Mark Woodhouse leads Chris Horsfall by 6 points in the seniors. However Jon and Will are in record breaking form and could easily take these placings in the coming months. In the Vets Alan Burgess is a suprise early front runner, with Paul Horsfall in second due to having no cross country bonus. However Vet legends "Webmaster" and John "train during my lunch hour" Dix, are always difficult to keep out of the frame in this event.

Please find attached the results from the Retford Cross Country today. Thanks to everyone who turned up, it was a great team effort and we are in a strong position to take the title. I am sure I heard Mick Masters offer to run in a dress at Clowne to help the ladies team take first place, although I am sure they will win it without Mick's help!
As I am sure you are all aware, at the end of the series we have a Male, Male Vet, Lady and Lady Vet runner of the series. This is based on your performances against your peers. Due to some very strong performances from the Clowne men, we need some of their key male runners not to run if any Roadhog males are to win. However we are in a strong position with the ladies.
Lisa Eato is in second place in the Senior ladies event, just 1 point behind the leader. Gail Wright is also looking strong in 4th place.
In the Lady Vet category however we occupy the first 4 places! Cheryl Bradburyis 4th, Beverly Lake is in 3rd place. Helen Coles is second and just 1 point behind Anne Beresford in 1st place. With just 1 race to go it is winner takes all between Helen and Anne.
Thanks, Jon.

SPREADSHEET HERE!
What a race! I would like to send a great big thanks to all the hogs who took part in the cross country today, in what were some of the most difficult X-C conditions I have ever ran in.
Just to summarise we won both the Mens, Ladies and overall races today. After 2 events the mens team are in 1st place and the ladies team are 2nd, just 1 point behind Killamarsh. We are in 1st place overall after 2 events. It would be great to win the mens, ladies and overall titles this year.
We are defending the Mens team title which we won last year. However we have not won the Ladies and overall title since 1999. The next race is in 2 weeks on 27 February at Retford. I will e-mail details of when we will be meeting closer to the event.
Results attached, thanks again. Jon.
