Hogs on a weekend jolly, and the Ogles impress. Jon in top form, and Mick gives Tony his Christmas Stuffing!
Following the Ulveston 10K the Lake Land hogs are back and looking forward to the Christmas Party next Saturday. Look out in your next Hogwash for Photo's and write up of the weekend including Chris and Alan's decent of the Langdale Pikes in the pitch black, and the infamous 6-mile walk back from Ambleside at 1am (Where do all the Taxis go in Ambleside?)

With no prizes to be decided, all credit to the three diehard "snout shufflers" who ran in an impressive large field of 500 plus.
Hogoftheday: Chris Horsfall (9 speed points off his seasons best)
Grand Prix results:
The fat lady sang big time a Maltby last week. All the leading positions were decided with a combination of completing the required number of races and distances plus a couple of failed PB attempts meaning that the top positions cannot be affected by the last two races.
Seniors:
1 Jon Ogle - Congratulations Jon after years of playing bridesmaid your name will now go on the trophy.
2 Chris Horsfall - No PB so no more chances.
3 Rob Smyth - Only six races but Maltby 10 completes the set of required distances and no one else can now match that.
Vets
1 Dave Drabble - Well done Dave - a hat trick!
2 John Dix - No PB (like Chris) so no more chances THIS year!
3 Graham Gough - No PB for Alan so Graham is safe in third place.
Women:
1 Anne Beresford - Sewn up a while ago points wise Anne completed the required set of distances and so becomes the first winner of the Roadhogs women's event. Well done Anne - a brand new trophy will be heading your way.

Injury prevented me from attending, but from the results, firstly a brilliant seasons best from ex-hog Philip Hoole, this bloke gets faster and faster.
Jon Ogle wins the Mens Title in style, with Chris certain to add a 2nd placing, to put his mantelpiece under further strain.
In the Vets Dave Drabble wins for the third year on the bounce, Jon Dix gets second despite winning today. It looks like Graham gets third place. Al ran well today, but it was this very race last year, that caused him to be so ill he missed out on a X-C bonus and unfortunately finishes 4th overall.
At last a Ladies Champion, well done Anne. Anne has run consistently all year, recording some smart times and is a worthy winner.

The holiday season reduced the number of Grunters to 6. A flat course and no more than a warm temperature was a gift for any PB attempts.
Chris had no "Monkey Boy" to worry about and gains 20 Points in his quest to secure the Runner Up Spot in the GP for 2003
Dave was a cosy winner of the vets and John will struggle to overhaul him, requiring Personal Bests to stop a Hat Trick of GP Vet Titles for the "Donny Dazzler". Alan easily won the lastest battle of a long running duel with Graham Gough, but needs to push the pedal down even harder, if he is to get 3rd in the GP at this late stage.
Anne needs to complete a few more races, to lift the Ladies Trophy, and complete a good season's running.

The Usual Hog Suspects turned up at a now familiar Mansfield Course.
Just 2 seniors but Jon Ogle scored a notable victory here by finishing high enough to win an Asics vest and record a good time on a tough course. Chris recovering from excess alcohol got round in decent time considering.
Jon Dix produced an excellent tactical run, the best Vet Half Marathon performance this year, to beat Dave who couldn't bridge the gap after being swept aside at 2 miles. Graham put up a seasons best by beating a back to form Alan
Hi Gang
Glad we helped you get
a prize Jon, counting runners helped Alan
and myself forget how far we still to go.
Overcast day with temperatures just right for us slower runners. A beautiful
course with most of the hard work done before 9 mile leaving an easy finish.

A semmingly glorious summers day turned into a real struggle for seven brave hogs. Temperatures got up to 25C in blazing sunshine and a real test of stamina developed, with runners changing position on many occasions, as they battled through bad patches.
Jon Ogle fared best of the seniors and looks unstoppable in the Seniors Title Race. Russ had a rare off day as he laboured in the heat.
Dave recovered from a nightmare start to finish well and piled on the agony for the chasing pack of seasoned Vets. John Dix never got going, but Graham looked comfortable, and this was a smart effort. Alan Burgess made the biggest tactical mistake since Jon Ogle at Askern a few years ago, by not stopping at the first drinks station! Only Mad Dogs and Englishmen...............
Anne pulled up injured which was a shame, as there was a great goody bag at the end.
A very well organised event....Thanks Barrow

us were wilting, hence the slower than usual times {my excuse anyway}.Worth

An excellent turn out for the "Trotters" on a pleasant evening. In the Seniors Jon dipped well below 30 minutes to beat Simon Gregory(on loan from Killamarsh), and Robert Smyth into 2nd and 3rd. Chris was as reliable as ever, and a warm welcome to Russ Beresford joining the Hogs, with a very important 4th placing for the Senior Team.
Nice to see a new Senior Lady amongst us. Anne Beresford clocked an excellent time and was the best placed overall in her category, also scooping 20 points in the Ladies Gran Prix
In the Vets, Tony Smith was a cosy winner for the Maximum, and Dave Drabble continues his Vice Like Grip on the Vets Gran Prix with a PB. John Dix was well below par in 3rd. Alan and Brian picked up 17 and 16 points respectively.
One major Gripe about Rother Valley is the parking charge, which leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. If they find the lake empty one morning, they have only themselves to blame!

The Bacon Boys turned out in force for this gruelling 5 Miler. In the Seniors Event, the big shock was Phillip Hoole turning up in a Rotherham Vest, so this event is thrown into confusion. All 3 Seniors ran well with Jon collecting Maximum Points in a fast time. Robert Smyth beat Chris this time and they are closely matched at present. Jon now leads the Gran Prix with Chris and Robert 2nd and 3rd.
John Dix bounced back to beat a lacklustre Dave Drabble in the Vets, with Tony Smith putting in an appearance to gain Maximum Points. Graham won a personal dual with Alan and it was nice to see 68 Year Old Brian Bean chasing 'em home.

A battalion of Porkers greedy for tarmac, turned up to fast 'n' flat "Wakey" for this annual event. I'm pretty sure that Philip Hoole scored a personal best. Jon Ogle and Chris(pre London prep) ran solid races in the Seniors Gran Prix.
In the Vets Dave Drabble coasted home to a comfortable win, despite Graham getting off to a flier! John Dix was a brave 2nd after running through the pain barrier, it was nice to see Tony back amongst the big points. Graham won a personal battle against Al, who has at last recovered from the Maltby 10 Miler last October!

2/2/2003 Handsworth Cross Country
Reasonable weather but the course has been cut up by Motorbikes and was hard to negotiate. Once again the Men finshed 2nd and Ladies in 4th position, 2nd overall

19/1/2003 Retford Cross Country
The first race in the series was run in desperately wet conditions, although it was mild. Feature of the race was being surrounded by barb wire in a cow field, with no Marshall! A solid effort to finish 2nd in the Men's Race and 4th in the Ladies Race, and being 2nd overall.
