2002 Season

24/11/2002 Clowne Half Marathon

The Final Gran Prix Race of the season saw 5 hogs braving the elements and an undulating course, with 405 finishers.

HogOfTheDay must go to Phillip, who was incidently the 5th Senior home, in a superb time.

3/11/2002 RonHill 43rd Derwent Water 10 Miler

While a team of Roadhogs were running the Graves Park cross country last weekend, 3 brave souls were taking on the challenge of rain, wind, hills (but no mud) at the Derwent water 10M in Keswick.

I think both Eddie and Tony W would agree that an 11 mile hike around the Fairfield horseshoe during the day and a bucket load of beer on Saturday night were hardly the best preperation, but what the hell, who wants to run quickly anyway!!

Jon.

P.S. Do not forget the party event of the year. No not the Golden Jubilee, the Handsworth Roadhogs X-Mas party, the date for your diary is Saturday 21 December, tickets will be on sale soon from any of your committee members.

John Ogle                 1:06:05 67th Position

Tony Weightman      1:26:35 324th Position

13/10/2002  South Yorkshire X-Country League. Penistone

A full pen of Six Hogs made up the numbers required for the male team and Gail Wright was our Lady Representative.

A roughly 3 lap course on grass and tricky lanes, was fair enough, but I at least completely misjudged the finish.

Many thanks to Mick for helping us out, and enabling us to make up a full team, Gail Wright,John Dix,Chris Horsfall,Phillip Hoole,The Web Master and Jon Ogle for ensuring Handsworth made a solid start in the Second Division.

06/10/2002 Maltby 10 Miler Gran Prix Event

Six Snorters reacted to the Starter's Gun, on a lovely Autumn Day again perfect for Racing.  The course was undulating throughout, with several long uphill stretches and I would say fairly tough to get a PB.  The event was well organised and all Finishers got a quality Winter Hat and Gloves.

Senior Race       1st   Jon Ogle  1.04.44             Vets Race  1st Dave Drabble 1.12.14

                       2nd   Chris Horsfall  1.06.29                    2nd John Dix   1.12.35

                                                                                     3rd Graham Gough 1.22.27

                                                                                     4th Alan Burgess 1.24.05

Performance of the day goes to Graham Gough, who caught the eye with a decent time and sprint finish.

In The Seniors Title Race, Jon Ogle ran sensible even splits to beat Chris Horsfall into second cosily.   Chris made a valiant attempt to open up a whole can of whoop-ass over Jon with a fast start, but seems to still be suffering from the after effects of a virus.

In The Vets Dave Drabble made a successful defence of his Title,by winning here, John Dix unable to claw back the early defecit, but ran a brave race in 2nd, and secured Runner Up spot after a blazing start to the campaign, and always giving 100%.  Alan Burgess's Armthorpe PB looks to have secured him 3rd spot, Al was well beaten today(suffering from a cold), by a rejuvenated Graham Gough, but has worked extremely hard, and gives everybody a lift as well!

29/2/2002 Clumber Park 10K Gran Prix Race

Seven Piggies assembled at the start line for this new Gran Prix Event. The course was slightly undulating on road, although not all smooth surfaces.  There was no breeze and the temperature was just right.  Yet again ideal conditions for Racing.

Senior Race       1st Phillip Hoole     36.01              Vets Race  1st Dave Drabble 41.50

                         2nd Jon Ogle        38.36                              2nd John Dix   43.29

                         3rd Chris Horsfall  40.07                             3rd Alan Burgess 49.36

                                                                                            4th Graham Gough 49.48

Mens Team
1    Doncaster    36pts         1.50.47
2    Hogs             105pts      1.58.06
3    Mansfield      138pts     2.03.06
4    Clowne         193pts     2.06.27

A lesson to be learned to anyone entering the Clumber 10K in future years.
1 Terrible queues to get a number. 2 Anyone entering on the day are not
eligible for team placing, which meant Chris did not count in our team
although he was the third hog back. Still a nice race with plenty of scenery (G.Gough)

Performance of the day goes to Dave Drabble with a new All Time PB.  NB Phillip Hoole was 6th overall in the Main Race another fine performance.

In the Seniors Title Race Phillip Hoole marches on  and looks likely to gain Max Points. The 2nd and 3rd placings look certain to be decided between Chris Horsfall who was decidedly under the weather today, and Jon Ogle who was a comfortable 2nd today.  A PB would swing things either way.

In the Vets, Dave Drabble ran his best race of the year and looks certain to retain his Title unless John Dix, ran a decent race today, can run PB's in his last 3 races. Alan Burgess just pipped Graham in a race to the line and is piling up a useful total. A PB for Alan could see him seal 3rd Place.

Next Gran Prix Event.....Maltby 4/10/2002

Chesterfield Half Marathon

Well done to Philip Hoole who recorded a time of 1 Hour 21 Mins approx and came 11TH, an excellent RoadHog Performance. Philip also came 3rd in our own race at Whirlow for 2 awards on the bounce.

15/9/2002 Nottingham Marathon Gran Prix Race

As far as I am aware, just One Hog attempted this race and that was me, Dave Drabble.  The weather was just right, not to warm and a nice breeze.  The large turnout made it difficult for fast starters of the Half Marathon.  The 2nd half featured some Trail and Grass, and apart from some double back routeing was quite pleasureable, along side the River Trent.

A PB was recorded in about 4:20:15 by myself in the Vets Race.

P.S.  The Energy Drinks couldn't have  tasted more sickly.

26/8/2002 Armthorpe 10k Gran Prix Race

Six Hogs turned out on a cool type of day, the course was flat and fast and ideal conditions for fast times

Senior Race          1st John Ogle 38.05            Vets Race  1st John Dix 42.32

                             2nd Chris Horsfall 38.38                     2nd Dave Drabble 43.32

                                                                                       3rd George Thompson 46.43

                                                                                        4th Alan Burgess
48.54

Performance of the day goes to Alan Burgess who set a new PB, cracking effort AL

In the Seniors Title race John Ogle returned to form and beat Chris Horsfall who ran close to his best, with no Tim Gleeson again, the 2nd and 3rd places are difficult to predict, Phillip Hoole is virtually assured of the title if  he completes 2 more races.

In the Vets John Dix was back to his best, Dave Drabble ran rather flat on his home course.  Alan Burgess took fall advantage with a 5 point bonus,  George miscalculated his finish and was just 6 seconds short of a PB, and may not get a better chance at todays distance.

The Ladies event looks unlikely to have a winner, with races running out.
