Diego Armando Maradona Diego Armando Maradona is certainly the greatest footballer the world has seen since Pele`, trying to determine who was best is certainly difficult. "Maradona is better than Pele`" Napoli fans used to sing when Napoli, led by Diego became the team to beat in Italy and Europe. Maradona played for other big clubs including Barcellona and Boca Juniors, he always showed off his great talent and footballing genius, but perhaps the crowning moment of his career was winning the World Cup for Argentina in the 1986 Mexico finals. Maradona was the undoubted star of the World Cup, he single handedly led Argentina to success, but he will also go down in history for the infamous "Hand of God" incident where Maradona scored with his hand against England. Amazingly in that same game Maradona scored probably the most breathtaking goal in international football, he dribbled past hopeless England defenders with a run from midfield to slot the ball home past the goalkeeper. Maradona was truly a footballing phenomenon, we will probably never see anyone with such skill and flair like he posessed again. |
