Glens Scrape Through Against First Division Leaders

Nationwide Gold Cup holders Glentoran left it late in this fiery contest with the First Divisions early pace setters, at Castlereagh Park.

Super sub David Rainey was the Glens main man as his second double saw off the tenacious Ards challenge.  His winner came just 60 seconds from the end of this splendid cup tie.  Sammy Shields started off the scoring in the 21st minute which they held until the 60 minute when the Glens comeback began.  David Rainey had entered the action at the start of the second half and he made his mark with a neat 18 yard right foot equalizer.

The Glens again had most of the possession which they have been having in their previous travels.  But again the home side's goalkeeper kept the Glens out with some remarkable saves until Rainey broke the Glens duck in away games in over 450 minutes without a goal away from home, infact it was the Glens first away goals since their game against Coleraine at the Showground's on the first game of the season.

Another substitute Liam Kelly's shot was too fierce to hold for Henderson and David Rainey was there to fire in the Glens winner in the last minute of the game.
