Warren Feeney blasted in a picture goal and slotted home two penalties in a 12 minute spell in the first half which demoralised Distillery at the Oval.
Feeney latched on to a Dickinson cross in the 41st minute, the ball was intended for Andy Hay making his first full appearance of the season, but the big fellow couldn't control the ball. It raced on to Feeney who hit it on the volley with his left foot from 15 yards into the roof of the net. It was goals galore and a penalty record for the new season_three awards inside the opening 34 minutes, and it all began when Ronnie McFall chopped down Distillery's busy bee winger Tommy Doyle in the 11th minute. Bertie McMullan slammed home the spot kick well away from McCullough. But it was scrappy football from the home team, who paraded Johnny Jamison for the first time.
Glentoran got back on the rails through midfielder Billy Caskey whose hard work rate pinned Distillery down in their own half, and in the 24th minute Caskey effort bounced off two Whites defenders and the lanky Dickinson nodded in the equaliser. Then came the start of Feeney's brilliant run but with some help from Distillery winger Gerry Higgins who slipped inside his own area and handled the ball in the 29th minute. Feeney slotted home his 7th goal of the season, five minutes later he rounded Brian Nicholl but was tripped inside the box and got up to slam home his left foot shot.
Three minutes from the interval Dickinson made a run on the left cut the ball inside off Hay and Feeney nipped in to rattle a block buster into to the roof of the net.
Half Time Glentoran 4 Distillery 1
Distillery had brought in Pat Healey for Terry McAuley in the 50 minute and five minutes later Higgins had the ball in the net, but claims for a goal were turned down as Higgins had apparently pulled the ball into control with his hand.
The whites were now playing some smart stuff and it paid off with a 62nd minute goal by Bertie McMinn. Glens keeper McCullough over stretched the mark by going outside his territory to clear and Distillery were awarded a free inside the box. McMinn cutely chipped the ball over a wall of players and through the hands of startled McCullough.
Glentoran hit back ten minutes from time and it was that man Feeney on the mark once again to make it super foursome. He aced through on the right but his shot was blocked by keeper White and over the end line for a corner. Feeney sent a swinging shot that dipped in through a mass of players and to the back of the net to bring his total to 10 goals in the opening five matches of the season.
Johnny Jamison who had a rather subdued come back was replaced in the 79th minute by Jim Campbell.
