Glens Ease Into Last Four

Tonight at Mourneview Park the Glens Second journey to Lurgan in a fortnight was completed with a comfortable victory.  The usual big away support from the Glens was again there to see but the home crowd was considerably down.  The Glens got off to the best off starts with a Tim McCann cross, and was met by Center half Allistair McCombe for his second goal of the season both coming against Glenavon, a powerful header which was too powerful for goalkeeper Mathews he could only parry into the net.  Seven minutes gone and the Champions were already a goal up and nearly doubled their lead 3 minutes late.  Scott Young was fouled and from the resulting free kick Tim McCann fired across the area with only a touch needed but the ball went for a throw in.

Glenavon then started to find their feet, starting to pass the ball around and created a few promising chances but did not take them. The first half started to drag out a bit with the half time whistle coming to the rescue.

The disappointing performance from new Signing was obvious again as he was substituted for another summer signing Brian Russell. Five minutes into the second half the Glens had another chance to double their lead when a through ball was picked up by Paul Leeman and his curling shot from 16 yards beat Matthews but not the post and the ball fell to safety.  The Glens put the Lurgan side under more pressure but not before Michael Ferguson came on for Leeman and Hamill came on for Rainey.  The game started to heat up with tempers flaring between McCann and Glen dinning, and McCann won a hotly disputed penalty in the 80th minute, McCann who was alleged to have been fouled by Donal O'Brien, who was booked and the Glens finally had the chance to go two goals ahead.  Scott Young stepped up and scored his second goal of the season calmly placing the ball past Matthews. Glenavon did however pull a goal back from Mark McMenemy in the second minute of injury time. The Glens did however ride their luck when Glenavon nearly forced an equaliser but Gough saved.
