like mano, arbitrary in degree, but usually has a negative connotation

  SKATEBOARDING

  My skateboard has been my primary toy for over twelve years now. I guess that would explain why my body hurts so much these days. Props to NoCal for having a good number of public skateparks and other good skate spots. Props to the tennis court banks and R.I.P. to the Cancer Bowl.   SNOWBOARDING

  I love snowboarding because of the rush of speed, the beautiful mountains, the sensation of floating, and the intensity of carving hard turns. Some useful snowboarding links:

  BASKETBALL

  Being a native SoCal, I love the Lakers. The only problem is that I'm surrounded by a bunch of Warriors fans up here, and they think they're going to win the championship every year (no matter how bad the previous season was). Let's face it: the NoCals have no chance. For those who share my feelings, go to Nando's Lakers Page or to the NBA's Lakers Page. The NBA site has a good number of quicktime and AVI movies for you to download including a nice Eddie Jones jam from the foul line (well, almost). As a Cal student, I do however harvest some loyalty toward the Cal basketball program. I'm glad to see that the new coach, Ben Braun, is a good fit with the team, and the guys are playing rather nicely at the moment. Go Cal! Nando's Pac 10 Hoops Site.

  MUSIC

  I started playing guitar back in middle school after my friends all started picking up instruments. Since then I have settled on my own home-made electrics (one bass and one guitar), a nice flamenco that my mother and brother were kind enough to give me, and an Ibanez acoustic whose neck I repaired after finding it lying abandoned in the hallway of my dorm my freshman year. The greatest thing about the Web is that you can download free tablature from various sites, like this one, or go to Joe Satriani's Page for some cool pictures of Satch and his guitars (including the chrome-plated "silver surfer" Ibanez). The Web Guitar Resources Page also is pretty cool and has links to yet more guitar related sites. Anybody know of a good Al DiMeola web site?

  STAR TREK

  I guess I am more of a fan of the newer series than the original. I did however thoroughly enjoy the movies, especially the one with the whales. The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine rank very highly while Voyager has been a huge disappointment. Try going here for some cool Star Trek pictures and such.

  BREAKING NEWS STORY!

  I spent my winter vacation in Asia on the 1997 Haas Business School/Pacific Rim Club trip. If anyone ever gets the chance, the islands in Southern Thailand sure are nice. Koh Pha Ngan is a perfect island paradise: imagine Hawaii without all the development and tourists. Cheap too! Pictures soon to follow.
