The title of my book is Michael Jordan; a basketball great.
It is a biography by Sean Dolan. The setting mostly takes place where
Jordan was growing up, North Carolina. The biography talks about how
Jordan grew up with many hardships which shaped him into the great
basketball player he is today. It also talks about his many
accomplishments.
Michael was born in Brooklyn, New York. But later he moved to
North Carolina. He was the third and last child to his parents, James
and Deloris Jordan. Michael and his brother, Larry, were both great
athletes. They played many games together but Larry kept on beating Michael
. When Michael was a sophomore, he tried out for his high school basketball
team, he got cut, but Larry made the team. This made him even more
determined to make the team. The next two years Jordan made the team and
later went to play with the North Carolina tar heels. When he was a
freshmen, he became famous when he shot a game winning basket which resulted
in a NCAA championship. On May 5, 1984, Jordan was drafted by the Chicago
Bulls in the first round, third pick. In the 1987- '88 season, he received
the Defensive Player of the year award and was named MVP. No other player
has ever had these two awards in a single season. Despite Jordan's
excellent performance, the Chicago Bulls didn't win a championship yet.
But in 1991, the Bulls won their first of four championships against the
L.A. Lakers. After the Bulls won their third consecutive championship,
Michael decides to retire due to the fact that his father was murdered and
that there were no more challenges in basketball. Michael decides to take
up a new challenge, baseball. Later in 1995, he rejoins the Bulls, but
they were eliminated by the Orlando Magic in the playoffs. The following
year was the Chicago Bulls' best season. They set a record with most
regular season wins and then going on to win another championship. Even
though Michael accomplished many things, Jordan says his greatest
accomplishment and favorite childhood memory was when he won a Minor league
championship when he was a kid. Jordan's mom taught him many things like
to work hard for something if wanted to get it. Today Jordan is one of
the most admired athlete.
I only recommend this book if you really like basketball because
it would be boring if you didn't. Michael Jordan impacted my life by
reminding me to try hard in everything I do.
