About the Book
The publication of "Small Town", in The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature literary journal introduced readers to the noteworthy voice of Jeff Martindale.
Now, in his first book, Martindale gives us many richly diverse stories, written in an inspired style concurrently unpretentious and substantial.
In these skillfully composed narratives, we find settings and characters that take us deep into the heart of the South. Random Thoughts carries its readers into the hearts and minds of average people facing their dreams and fears, their memories and hardships, and their longing for acceptance. A man returns home after years of self-imposed exile to learn if he, like the town, had changed. A boy and his grandfather eagerly anticipate opening day of the baseball season. An elderly couple rediscovers the power of their relationship during an anniversary dinner. A deeply moving tale of a man’s Internet chat room exchange with his deceased father. A darkly comic story of a young man’s struggle with drug addiction. A reflective account of why small town residents have little but reap abundant.
A new voice of his generation, Martindale’s unique collection underscores that even average people can accomplish extraordinary things.

A thoughtful collection
An imaginative collection of stories and poems. The writer seems family oriented and very perspective. An interesting read and very thoughtfully written. Many can identify with situations. I rate it high for a first book.
