He started as a basketball player for The University of the East, Manila, Philippines. Although, his first love is swimming, since he is then, quite tall for a Filipino, he stands 6 foot 4 inches. He was encouraged by his mentor, Virgilio Dalupan, to play basketball. Since then, he improved his craft and strived to be the best then later on he was proded play for commercial teams. Later on he was known for his long shots. The lanky , "Mr.Cool" (as he was referred to) was the best center in the Philippines. He then was recruited to play for the Asian Basketball Conference to vie for a chance in the Olympiad. The Philippines won over China. 1968, Mexico - Philippines was present and so did the next Olympiad held in Munich, Gemany in 1972. Where he was the flag bearer of the Phillipines contingent. There he walked tall and proud. And he played for different commercial teams in Manila. 1979, He hangs he's number 6 jersey and became a Coach.
