09/20 06:42 PM
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- St. Louis Rams running back Greg Hill broke his right leg in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills after having a career day.
Bills defensive lineman Ted Washington, who weighs 325 pounds, fell on Hill's leg after he was tackled for a safety run with eight minutes left in the game. The 26-year-old was on crutches after the game and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
Hill, inserted into the starting lineup last week after Jerald Moore fumbled three times in the opener, ran for 158 yards on 19 carries, including two touchdowns.
``Hopefully our next back will be able to step up because losing Greg is a big loss,'' Rams quarterback Tony Banks said. ``Greg was running real well today.
Hill, 26, is in his fifth season and first in St. Louis after platooning for four years with Marcus Allen in Kansas City.
Hill was not the only injury for the Rams. Defensive lineman Kevin Carter (calf strain) and linebacker Lorenzo Styles (groin) left the game and did not return.
