Hill, an unrestricted free agent, signed a multi-year contract with the Rams. Terms were not disclosed.

The 31-year-old Hill has eclipsed the century mark in tackles in six of the last seven NFL seasons. He started 118 of a possible 122 games prior to the 1997 season, in which he missed five games due to injuries. Hill was named a Pro Bowl alternate in 1994 and 1996.

Hill will likely move in as the Rams' starting middle linebacker. Robert Jones, St. Louis' starting middle linebacker the last two seasons, led the Rams with 115 tackles last season, but only 1½ tackles were for losses.

Ronald McKinnon, the Cardinals' starting right outside linebacker, will replace Hill in the middle for Arizona. He started six games for the injured Hill last year at middle linebacker and led the team in tackles with 145.

Hill ranked third on the Cardinals last season with 118 tackles despite being limited to 11 games. He also had a quarterback pressure, 3 tackles for losses and 2 passes defensed.

Hill suffered a broken ankle in the second half of the Cardinals' season opener at Cincinnati. But he regained his form as the season progressed and led the Cards in tackles in four of the last six games, including an 18-tackle performance against Pittsburgh in Week 14.
