On Tony Banks

Patience?

WR Eddie Kennison was injured and had a dissapointing year in 1997... TRADE HIM!

QB Tony Banks began the preseason with a couple of mediocre abeit very short performances... BENCH HIM!

CB Ryan McNeil held out until the week before the season after a career year last season... LET HIM SIT!

DE Grant Wistrom hasn't broken into the starting lineup yet... HE'S A BUST!

Head Coach Dick Vermeil made a questionable decision in placing RB's Hill & Holcombe on the inactive list, the Rams paid the price when starter Jerald Moore fumbled away the game... FIRE VERMEIL!!!

Do these suggestions seem absurd? Do they seem extreme, reactionary, and ridiculous?

They do to me...

Rams fans have watched as this team has lost more games then any other team in the 90's. During this nightmarish stretch, the players and coaches have been a virtual revolving door. While winning franchises built upon continuity of personnel and coaching have thrived throughout the decade, the Rams have stabbed in the dark repeatedly... not quite sure if they missed each time because they made inept choices, or simply because they stabbed again way too soon.

All of the reactionary comments listed above have been the POPULAR opinion amongst Rams fans in the past few weeks. Everyone has an opinion about the best course of action, and everyone is certain that the current one is NOT it. Well I say PHOOEY ON ALL THAT MESS! Wake up Rams fans! Look around... do you know how many games we've played? Do you know how many other teams in the league are 0 & 1 right now? Shees! Have a little faith!

Rams fans are so quick to jump to absurd states of panic that it is almost comical. Self-professed 30 years fans ready to jump ship at the slightest sign of trouble. What's going on here?

Last Sunday, the crowd at the TWA Dome couldn't wait to boo there home team, then they proved just how dedicated they were to building a winner by their mass exodus from the stadium to see Mark McGwire go 0 for 4.

For the long time Rams fans, if you're that impatient then it seems to me that perhaps you need another hobby. Why torture yourself through an entire offseason and 16 games if you are as hopeless as you claim? Have 20 years of fandom taught you to predict the future by watching a handful of plays?

For the new St.Louis fans, do you think your boos build confidence in our young team? Settle down and strap yourselves in for the ride, or jump ship and regret your choices later. Rome wasn't built in a day, and all of us our fans. If we all knew as much as some of us believe we do, we'd all be NFL head coaches.

Keep the Faith!
