VERMEIL PLEASED WITH MORNING SESSION
The St. Louis Rams went through the second day of the three day minicamp Saturday, working for about two hours outdoors. Coach Dick Vermeil was very pleased with the effort and execution of the session.
"It was a good practice this morning," Vermeil said. "The weather helped when it's like this, mentally they're more prepared to work and they can work with better concentration. It was our best practice."
Vermeil believes the combination of players and coaches being in the second year of the system is starting to pay dividends.
"The players have more confidence in themselves because they know what they're doing," Vermeil said. "I think they also have more confidence in us (as coaches) that we know what we're doing. They're starting to enjoy work more."
A trio of defensive free agents have stood out in minicamp. LB Eric Hill, in his 10th-year out of LSU, is the new starter at middle linebacker.
"Hill is a gladiator-type guy," Vermeil said. "He's been in the ring a number of years. He had one breakeven season and no winning seasons. He's very hungry for success to participate in a successful program. He's a good leader."
CB Willie Clark, a fifth-year player from Notre Dame, had a good practice session, Vermeil said.
"He had a very good morning and he looked good yesterday," Vermeil said. "I like Willie Clark. He's done a good job. There is no reason he can't play in the National Football League."
Ray Agnew, a nine-year veteran from North Carolina State, also has looked sharp.
"Agnew has looked very good," said Vermeil of the defensive tackle. "He had a very good practice yesterday afternoon. I'm more pleased with him now than I was after the first minicamp."
