Jets match Rams' offer sheet to LB Chad Cascadden

After receiving the good news that running back Curtis Martin chose to stay with the New York Jets for the long haul, they matched the offer sheet presented by the St. Louis Rams to restricted free agent linebacker Chad Cascadden.
While the team did not disclose details of the offer sheet, Cascadden's agent, Brian Levy, told SportsTicker the deal was worth $2.3 million, with a $600,000 signing bonus and a guaranteed salary of $700,000 for the 1998 season. The remaining two years of the contract are worth $500,000 apiece but neither year is guaranteed. Cascadden made $196,000 last season.
The 25-year-old Cascadden, signed as a free agent from Wisconsin in 1995, was a special teams star and recorded 13 special-teams tackles. He has made eight career starts in 42 games and saw spot duty as a pass rusher last season. Over his career, Cascadden has 57 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
