~About Our Conference~

The Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, or the P.I.V.A., serves the collegiate club men's teams throughout the Pacific Northwest. It started out in 1993 with five teams from the state of Oregon, and one team from the state of Washington. Now, in it's sixth season, the PIVA has expanded rapidly, thanks to the participation of schools from Montana and Idaho.

We are always looking for committed collegiate club teams around the northwest to join our Conference. If your team is interested, please contact our Commissioner, Matt Weaver.

WSU 3rd at NIRSA
Washington State University, ranked 5th in the nation, finished 3rd at the NIRSA collegiate club championships, held April 15-18 at Austin, Texas.  This is WSU's highest finish in the national championships.  They finished tied for 5th place both in 1996 and 1997.

The Cougars went 3-0 in the first day of pool play, defeating UW-Whitewater, Rhode Island, and Texas A&M.  In the challenge round, they swept past Penn State, but lost to 4th-ranked Illinois, 7-15, 9-15.
In the championship round, the Cougs eliminated the defending national champions and 3rd-ranked Sacramento State 2-1, and advanced to the semi-finals by sweeping a tough Ohio State team 2-0, but lost to eventual champion Graceland College.

Two seniors, Kevin Marts (6-3, middle blocker) and Brodie McClain (6-1, opposite) were selected to the All-tournament first and second team, respectively.  This is Marts' third such accolade during his stellar career at Washington State. He was selected to the first team in 1996, and to the second team in 1997.

Washington State finished first with a 7-0 record in the Conference, successfully defending its Conference crown.

Western Washington finishes strong at NIRSA Div. II
Western Washington University, ranked 9th in the division II poll, started very strong in the pool play, sneaking past Winona State, 12-15, 15-4, 18-16, and crushing Boston College 15-3, 15-5.
2-0 record in pool play gave WWU a bye in the second day, and giving them automatic birth to the championship round, where they faced and lost to eventual runner-ups, UW EauClaire.

Western finished tied for second in the Conference along with Idaho with a 4-3 record.
