The Auckland Sword & Shield Society is a legally incorporated society whose members study medieval European weapons training. The training follows a structured syllabus which covers armed, unarmed & missile combat, from the 9th - 15th Century AD.
In addition, the societies members construct authentic costumes, weapons & armour of the period. The society participates in public displays, film work & theatre productions, through the very successful display team, called the 'Knights Draconis'.
The instructors have extensive background knowledge, both from the Societies system and from exterior & prior training, received in New Zealand & Internationally. The instructors undergo rigorous training over many years to be fully competent in their teaching of the syllabus.
The Auckland Society is a foundation member of the New Zealand Sword & Shield Society, a national organisation currently in establishment, with principal sister groups; the Wellington Sword & Shield Society, Darkhaven Sword & Shield Society, Wairoa, and the Whangarei Sword & Shield Society.
Training is open to those 15 years & older.
