Everlund
Everlund in Espaur

Description: Everlund is a small walled town located in what is commonly known to Fauern as the Savage Frontier or the Savage North. A short distance from Silverymoon it is the closest vestige of civilization. The Troll Moors loom to its east and on a clear, hot day if the wind is blowing right, one may even smell the foul area. To its south lies the mysterious High Forest.. The Rauvin River supplies river trade from both Silverymoon to its north and Sundabar to its northeast.

It is a frontier town of the highest caliber. All its citizen's knowing full well the dangerous position the town holds. With caravans and water traffic coming from both cities, it is a rich high traffic area.

Government/Defense: Everlund's government is a simple council consisting of 3 citizens voted on by the the general populace every 2 years. The council itself then chooses its leader, it is this person that conducts all dealings with outside agencies. It is not unusual for a person to serve more then one term, either consecutively or spread out over the years.

The defense of Everlund is a 3 layered affair. The first and foremost is the town wall. standing 4 and 1/2 hands in height, it completely surrounds the town. Goods from water traffic are moved into a small warehouse district, with several being available for rental by various companies. The wall is 4 feet thick and magicked not to burn. Behind the wall is a platform standing 4 hands in height, and 10 feet in width. This platform can be reached from any point on the ground, and in times of attack sections can be raised to allow archers a better field of fire, while offering the maximum amount of cover.

The next layer is its standing militia. 40% of town's resources goes to supporting the 200 man militia. It is composed mostly of archers, spear men and close in fighters. The Militia holds on staff 2 wizards. It also, at the discretion of the Captain of the Guard, can hire mercenaries in 2-3 month time spans. The current Captain of the Guard is one Hacteth, an experienced fighter who has held the post for the last 12 years.

The last layer of defense is an agreement t very citizen will serve a half year training and two years service as militia irregulars. Most serve in their youth. And since every citizen is trained in combat, should the need arise, most of the town could conceivably rise up in arms.

Trade: Being a central point to both isolated cities of Silverymoon and Sundabar, Everlund is the center of a rich trade route. River trade and caravans { mostly heading towards Yartar and eventually Waterdeep}, provide an unending train of supplies. Most of the town's income derives from warehouse rental, caravan picket fees and ferriers and horse traders.

Since the caravans bring a large number of mercenaries, with hopes of procuring spring and summer employment, the various merchants make a living off them and the caravaners and sailors.

The town itself imports some food stuff. It's exports are limited to the occasional craft by its citizens. It is primarily a service town.

Temples: There are several small temples and a few shrines. Tymora, Goddess of luck, is prominate here as is Wuakeen. Tempus, Helm and Selune all have small but well kept shrines here.

Organizations: Everlund has only a few organizations of note. One is the local mage/sage guild. It is a small building in the north end of town. At any time it may have as many as 4 wandering wizards and / or sages in residence or as few as none. It is a loosely run organization mainly kept by the various wizard's and sages moving in and out.

The other organization is the River Lads. This is a group of young men and women whose responsibility it is to unload and load the goods brought by the river. It keeps its own records and splits the profits evenly with the town. It is in charge of all the warehouses and responsible for their contents.

Points and Places of Interest: The Charging Centaur is one of the small inns and taverns this town has to boast. It is run by the Bligh family. Bligh himself runs the tavern and his wife Mitherd runs the staff and kitchen. It is a clean and friendly place frequented by most of the militia and a good portion of the more responsible mercenaries. When visiting be sure to ask Bligh how his inn got its name.
