Yugoslavia

On 20 July 1924, Leon Stukelj won the Horizontal Bar and Individual All-Around Gymnastics competitions to become Yugoslavia's only Olympic champion prior to WW2. A further Gold on Rings followed in 1928, along with two Bronzes, and a Silver in 1936. Lack of money by the Yugoslav government forced Stukelj to sit out the Los Angeles 1932 Olympics.

72 years later, at the Opening Ceremony in Atlanta, Stukelj was introduced to the crowd as the oldest living Olympic champion. He was 97 and performed agile gymnastic routines to the delight of everyone, including US President Clinton.
