Austria's first Olympic Champion was 20-year old swimmer Paul Neumann, who won the 500 m Freestyle event at Athens on 11 April 1896.

14 Austrian athletes won a total of 10 Olympic Gold medals at the Summer Games and 4 at Winter Games between 1896 and 1936. Austrian athletes were forced to compete for Germany at Berlin in 1936 but are included in this list.
