Australia's first Olympic Champion was 22-year old runner Edwin 'Teddy' Flack, who won both the 800m and 1500m at Athens in 1896. He was the only Australian competing at Athens.
28 Australians have won a total of 16 Olympic Gold medals at seven Olympic Games between 1896 and 1932. Daniel Carroll, born in Melbourne, won his first Gold in 1904 for Australia and the second as a member of the American Rugby team in 1920.
