Looking back
by The Maillefamily
This cache is in the oldest Cemetery in Grants Pass. The cemetery was neglected and overgrown when it was very sadly vandalized.
Almost every stone was broken some beyond repair. Today all the remaining stones are arranged in a large circular memorial.
The Memorial
Hard to Imagine a time when Grizzly Bears roamed the area
but they did, and as the story goes this man actually ran into 3 bears, shot the closest one and the injured bear mauled him.
He survived and hiked home where he later died of his injuries
This cemetery also includes the graves of a few veterans from the indian wars. McDonough Harkness volunteered to help
a dispatch wagon thru hostile territory. They were ambushed and he was scalped alive, every part of his body was cut
and his heart was removed and hung on a bush

Not into sports, man

This is a great micro with one of the best hints I have ever read. The grave it is near, as I remember, is of a man hung for stealing horses.
I am sure he was hung I am not sure of his crime.

Waldo Cemetery Cache
by Boxerlovers and the Boxer too!
A very interesting old cemetery near the extinct town of Waldo. Some day I will go back to take pictures.
There is a seperate place for the graves of chinese miners. These graves were exumed and the remains sent back to China,
but the grave pits are suppose to still be visible. I think they are on the left of the road up to the main cemetery.
When I go back I will investigate.

This cemetery in Roseburg has an interesting driveway on the far right entrance facing the top of the hill.
I am sure there is a lot of history here but I don't know any of it. |
Fir Grove Park - rbgrubbs reach 100

This cache is not in a cemetery but is right next to the Roseburg National Cemetery. This military cemetery has
several Spanish American War, WW1, and WW2 veterans. I imagine a better look would find veterans from Korea and Vietnam.
I did not look as long as I would have liked. Next time I go to Roseburg I will have to take some pictures. |
Don't Get Shafted

A record of cemeteries in Josephine county lists a site near this mine. In the area I did find an old wooden cross which might mark a grave. I'll have to do some more research for this one. |
