korean - 02/21/00 01:22:34 | Comments: -dokdo, korea island- Dokdo consists of 34 rock islands from vocalnic activities of about 4,600,000 years ago, the 3rd period of the Cenozoic Era. The weather is mild and humid. There is raining year around with average rainfall of 1,300 mm. Dokdo contains 5 different kinds of trees and 36 vegetables. Rats, earthworms and gulls are also inhabited here. In 1982 the whole Islands were designated as th Natural Monument No.336 with 3 natural monument objects such as a fork-tailed petrel. It was 512 A.D that Dokdo was organized into Korean territory, the same time as Shilla Dymasty took over the Usan Kingdom. According to the Samkooksaki(Historical Record of Tree Kingdoms) and Mankiyoram, UsanKingdom's sphere included Ullungdo Islands and okdo Islands. In the above mentioned books, Usando was named as the so-called then Japanese's Songdo(Pine Tree Islands), which meant Ullungdo and Dokdo were the territory of Usan Kingdom. Since then Japan called Ullungdo as Jookdo(Bamboo Island), Dokdo as Songdo. The Authentic Record of the Great King Sejong of 1432 says that "because the distance between two Islands is not very far, and if the sight is clear, it can be seen each other by one's phisical eyes." This also meant that these two Islands were included i the Chosun Dynasty. Japanese historical records such as 은주시청합기 of 1667 recognized Ullungdo and Dokdo as Korean Territory. The 조선국교시말내탐서, a Report of 1896, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, also acknowledged Dokdo as Chosun's attached territory. Through the ancient documents such as The History of Koryo, The Authentic Record of Chosun and The Authentic Record of the Great King Sejong confirmed Dokdo was and is Korean territory. In 1900, by the No.41 Imperial Ordinance of Emperor Kojong, the title of govenor of Ullungdo was renamed from the supervisor to the county headman, whose jurisdiction included the main Islands(Ullungdo) and the Stone Islands(Dokdo). In 1952, the Yi,Shing-Man line was established. For 44 months from 1953 to 1956, there actually resided Hong,Sun-Chil, the leader of the Dokdo Voluntary Guards and his 33 men. Now the inhabitants of Dokdo are Kim,Sung-Do(60 years old) and his wife who moved their resident registrations in 1991. The families who moved their domiciles were 28 persons in 6 fimilies by Nomber 24, 1999, including singer Chong,Kwang-Tae, who became famous with a song titled "Dokdo is Korean Territory". |

Don't start running off @ the mouth when we've hoisted our 2nd banner. I also caught one of your fans comments on the TSSAA site about Hollis being better than Jolly.
