X-Hingis X-Leave The List : send 'leave hingis' to tennis@aussie.ch X-ListMember: branko.matuza@ck.tel.hr [hingis@mail.aussie.ch] Hi Hingis Fans, Acura Tennis Classic - Los Angeles ============================= Semi-Finals: Martina Hingis lost against Lindsay Davenport 2:6 6:4 4:6 Big suprise for all of us, after her "easy" wins in the last tournaments.. But (an advice from me), don't forget, that Davenport, is also one of the Top 10 players of the world, so it's no shame to loose. Anyway, it's quite suprising...but maybe it helps Martina to concentrate more at the US Open....(i guess we all hope that). REPORT ======= Here an Report from ESPN Sportszone: LOS ANGELES -- Lindsay Davenport upset Martina Hingis, the top seed and world's No. 1 player, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 on Saturday in the semifinals of the $450,000 Acura Classic. Davenport, the fourth seed and defending champion, improved to 36-10 this season and advanced to her fourth tournament final. She has captured titles in Oklahoma City, Indian Wells, and Amelia Island. Davenport now has beaten Hingis in three of their six meetings. Hingis captured her ninth title of the season last Sunday at the Toshiba Classic in San Diego. She is 59-2 overall this year (56-2 in WTA Tour matches), including 35-1 on hardcourts, and had won 19 straight matches since her only previous loss this year to Iva Majoli in the final of the French Open in June. Hingis had beaten Davenport in a semifinal matchup three weeks ago. The 21-year-old Davenport eliminated Nathalie Tauziat in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Hingis defeated Anke Huber 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinals. She was coming off victories in Stanford, Calif., and San Diego in consecutive weeks. Last month, Hingis became the youngest Wimbledon winner this century. She also has won the Australian Open, the Sydney International, Pan Pacific Open, Open Gaz de France, the Lipton Championships, the Family Circle Cup and the Bank of West Classic in Stanford. In Saturday night's other semifinal match, second seed Monica Seles takes on Amy Frazier. Seles won the title in 1991 and 1990. Seles, still looking for her first title of the year, crushed Natasha Zvereva, 6-1, 6-1 in just 43 minutes Thursday night in quarterfinal action. She has compiled a 27-9 record this year and advanced to the finals of four events, but has come up short each time. The former number one player is 15-1 in Los Angeles and 6-1 against Frazier, including a 4-0 mark on hardcourts. Frazier, the 1994 champion, is looking to advance to her second final of the year. She lost to Ai Sugiyama in the title match at Tokyo. The 24-year-old Frazier gained a semifinal berth by defeating fifth seed Aranxta Sanchez Vicario, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, Friday. First prize is $79,000.
