HCTA Highlights
2005 Columbia Junior Open Tennis Tournament
160 players representing
eight different age categories for both girls and boys played in this year's Columbia
Junior Open Tennis Tournament. With the assistance of the local
community in helping to sponsor this tournament, we achieved much success in
making this event both competitive and fun for those that participated. The
HCTA wishes to recognize the following local businesses that helped
make this tournament possible:

- Sandy Spring National Bank
HCTA also wishes to thank Stan Ber and his
team from the Columbia Flyer for the fantastic press coverage and kind words
of support for this tournament, which has been a mainstay in Columbia, Maryland for 25 years.
The winners of this tournament will be reported shortly on this
website as well as in the next edition of MATCHPOINT newspaper.

2004 HCTA Scholarship Winners: Merideth
Marr and Pieter Vismans
The 2004 Howard County Tennis Association Senior Scholarship Awards were
given to Merideth Marr of Howard High School and
Pieter Vismans of Glenelg
High School. Ms. Marr plans to attend Salisbury University, and Georgia Tech is Mr. Visman' s college choice. This is the 5th
consecutive year that the HCTA has given this scholarship to Howard County
high school seniors who have contributed to their tennis team and plan to
attend college. The scholarship will provide $1000 to help defray college
expenses. Our best wishes go to Merideth and Peter
for success in their collegiate pursuits!
