2003 HCTA Highlights The Lacy-Graves Memorial Middle School Tennis TournamentThe 4th Annual Shirley Lacy-John Graves, Memorial Middle School Tennis Tournament was held at River Hill High School on Saturday May 3rd. Forty-five Howard County School 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students competed in competitive friendly matches in singles and doubles. The tournament was named in honor of Shirley Lacy, the mother of a Hammond High School student Kim Lacy, and John Graves a Columbia tennis player and referee. The 6th grade event finalists were Ryan Kent of Glenelg Country School who won 10-3 over Tommy Gates of Bonnie Branch Middle School. The 7th grade final pitted Brandt Neuworth of Burleigh Manor against Chelsea Corriveau of St Louis School. Neuworth won 10-8 in the best of a 10 game pro set. The 8th grade finals matched Aaron Romano of Patapsco Middle against Alex Hossick of St Louis School. The final score of 11-9 was a nail bitter. The Doubles final included Glenwood Middle, represented by Kevin Miller and.Zack Facchina, against Patuxent Valley’s Adam Klein and Francisco Borelli. The Glenwood team of Miller/Facchina prevailed 10-3. The tournament was sponsored by the John

2003 HCTA Scholarship Winners: Jatin Shah and Emily SharpeThe 2003 Howard County Tennis Association Scholarship was awarded to Jatin Shah of Long Reach High School and Emily Sharpe of Howard High School. Both award recipients plan to attend the University of Maryland - College Park. This is the 5th consecutive year that the HCTA has given this scholarship to Howard County high school seniors who have contributed to their tennis team and plan to attend college. The scholarship will provide $1000 to help defray college expenses. Congratulations to Jeff and Emily for a job well done! |
