Arrrgh!!! The Woodies lost an agonising Doubles final at Wimbledon 1998. After Starting well, winning the first set 6-2, their opponents Eltingh and Haarhuis (left) decided to start returning serve (how inconsiderate!). The fifth set was great, with the Woodies saving two Championship Points before finally going down 10-8 in the fifth. Congratulations to the Dutch pair, though. If anyone was to beat the Woodies at Wimbledon, it should have been them.

The Woodies, by winning in Munich (right) against Eagle and Florent, notched up their 50th career doubles title. They are edging ever closer to McEnroe & Fleming's record of 57 titles. |

The Woodies have lost their number one doubles ranking for the first time in a while (well, for the first time since this page has gone up). Mark is at 2, while Todd is at 3, which indicates that one of them has been playing with another partner, possibly because of an injury to the other. I'm afraid I can't be too specific here, 'cos I've been lazy and not kept up with news over the past few months!! However, if you take a look at their recent results, you'll notice that they haven't been going too good lately...

Jonas Bjorkman, left, with Todd Woodbridge at the presentation ceremony for the 1998 Australian Open. |
The Woodies, after coming off a win in Sydney, the Adidas International, nearly defended their Australian Open title on Jan 31 this year. They went down in 5 sets to Jonas Bjorkman and Jacco Eltingh 6-2 5-7 2-6 6-4 6-3. It was quite a good match, with the Woodies losing the first set, then looking as if they were cruising, winning the next two sets, but Bjorkman and Eltingh hung in there, breaking serve to win the 4th set, and again in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead, serving it out the next game. Bummer!!

Late last year, The Woodies played some exhibition games in Canberra (Australia's capital city, for those of you who aren't Aussies...and, for those of you who are, as a matter of fact! :-). I was going to go along, but my family decided to go to the South Coast for Xmas/New Year holidays...bummer! Anyway, they played some sets against local tennis pros, and a singles match against each other. |

Late last year, The Woodies were named Team of the Year by the ATP...again! Here they are with their trophies, and dressed rather smartly too!
