Dear
World and Others:
If you can read, the following information is available to you. If not,
why the heck are you looking at this (it will only be a bunch of letters).
Seriously, The Main Drain of
Greater Cincinnati was first conceived in 1993. The team had extensive
tryouts which no one could pass (3 died during the grueling 7-week tryout
period, for the readers-"let’s please stop reading for a moment of
silence"). When the powers-to-be realized their training/tryout methods
were off-base and insurmountable they resorted to the cattle prod. This
proven method was successful. The agile ones got away, those that didn’t
became The Main Drain: Coach
Ken Stull, Captain Dan Siler, 1996 ‘Ohio Operator of the Year’ Terry Stockelman,
Master Machinist Rob Deller, Lab Specialist Diane Warrington. Our first
state competition yielded a third place finish & no shot at the National
Title that we believed was rightfully ours. Of course, we believed the
state title was rightfully ours too, until the judges revealed our scores
(then we were happy to have escaped with a third place finish).
In 1994, the team was reherded and cattle prod
voltage was cranked up (and I’m telling you, it hurt). No longer was third
place acceptable, so to prevent further pain we did what we had to do to
advance to the National Competition in Chicago (Division 2). We got our
shot at the National Title! After a few pointers from ‘national powerhouse’
The L.A. Wrecking Crew, we finished in the top 10 in the Nation (see chart
4.B. Appendix C in Volume III, article 29, section 2 for actual ranking).
The team returned to a hero’s welcome (we have the watch to prove it).
In 1995, back at home (MSD of Greater Cincinnati)
the team’s enthusiasm spilled over and a second team was developed The
Power Flushers (see their website). Unfortunately, we exhausted
all of our energy training them; bottomline- they went to National Competition
(we didn’t).
In 1996, the team took on a different look. The aging Terry
& Rob had put on quite a few pounds (and the already short Terry shrank
a couple of inches). Hair loss, lets not go there. Ken Stull was now a
woman, I mean his position of coach was now filled by a woman (exteammate
Diane Warrington). Diane was replaced by News Anchor Dennis Mills. Gel
time for the new team must’ve been insufficient as we finished behind interdepartment
rival (I won’t give them more ink, so see previous paragraph).
In 1997, Victory. See you in Chicago
In 1998, team personnel changes pending outcome of
National Competition.
