Inter CableTel play their home games within sight of Ninian Park at
the municipal athletics stadium. The pitch is located in the middle
of the running track and opera glasses will be worn next time in order
to adequately keep track of play. Not that there was much play to be
kept track of today. The Aber team played without much imagination, although
there was some good link up play between the midfield and attack it never
amounted to anything, Gavin Allen missing the best chance when Harrison's
shot rebounded to him and he hit the bar. CableTel did not force many saves
out of Kinnnnnninnnnnnmoooooonth but he was beaten on 75 minutes by Haig's
excellent shot on the turn. Aber missed Nicholls who is suspended for one
more game yet, the starting line up included John Morris but neglected
Martyn Davies (who would have been a direct replacement). Little else to be
said about the game. However, a rant against municipal hellholes which lack
atmosphere, encourage under 200 spectators to turn up (a lot of them from
Aber) and whose refreshment facilities are on the "Intermediate Floor@ would
certainly be in order. So here goes ...
(Bit short but then it was a boring game)

7.9.96 Aberystwyth Town 0-1 Inter Cable-Tel
The scoreline flatters the Green and Blacks, the boys from the smoke launched
a first half blitzkreig and managed to get in some good chances in the
second half, missing three or four virtually open goals. Their goal came
from david Threlfall (a header after 20 minutes) and that was that. For
the seasiders it was the same old story. Harrison and Griffiths ran a lot, the
defence showed some stoicism but mixed it with crass naivete, but we must
remember that they are YOUNGSTERS. Up front, it was the first appearance of
the year for the gangly Glyndwr hughes, but not until the final fifteen
minutes. helooks confident and, given a bit more time, may have scored a
goal but Inter, through excellent performances throughout the team (especially
Ashley Griffiths) should've managed to cancel it. Park Avenue is now called
Continental Park Avenue and the programme has yellow and green blotches
on the front. The crowd looked to be just under 300 which is not good news and
the boys now lie third bottom, and the teams below already have games in hand.
But as the tramps at the station, who had been at the match, told me through
a haze of McEwan's Export: "S'Apperzon'sgorungskwadansgrownsmallsotherorright"
(Appleton's got a young squad and the ground's small, so they're alright.) Erm.
