"For F/ck's sake, Aber! For football like that I may as well be watching
SDUC Firsts." I actually yelled something similar to that midway through
the second half (Actually, he yelled those exact words, I was standing next to him at
the time, so I know! Ed.) as Conwy were once again allowed to mess around with
the ball, unchallenged, and make Aber look like a rank bunch of incompetents.;
The fact that they are not was proven by their excellent first half
performance. The Aber team were all impressive during the first half, with Wyn Thomas, getting the chance to start only his second
match of the season running the midfield and Glyndwr Hughes a constant
menace up front. It was Glyndwr's running at the Conwy defence which should
have given Aber the lead, when he was bought down in the area by the Conwy
defence. Instead they trailed 1-0 at half time thanks to a pounce on an
error from Ken "This man is really quite an accuate shooter and worshipped
as the Lord in Conwy" McKenna. In the second, Conwy showed their top of
the league class. Aber may as well have not bothered playing, especially
not in whie shorts and socks, as McKenna and his little helpers ran the
seasiders ragged. 1-0 became 4-0 thanks to three more goals from McKenna
before the three quarter mark. And that was that.
The journey up from Lampeter was a ad slow but we still made it to Conwy
two hours before kick off. Betws-y-Coed provided our tea, after an overpriced
eaterie in Conwy had created lunch for us without a smile. Still no need
to phone David Mellor and tell him that the Green and Blacks are not to be
trifled with.
