Golden Eagles push defense in 49-39 win over Watertown


Hilary Aden says defense is Aberdeen Central's "thing" this seson. Central held Watertown to just 19 second half points on their way to a 49-39 ESD win at the Civic Arena. The win was the first over perennial power Watertown in 5 years. Watertown led 20-19 at half time and took a 27-25 lead on a Jaime Berry 3 pointer with 3 minutes left in the third. Dawn Sillman and Aden put Central back in front with consecutive 15 footers. Sillman (9) and Aden (6) scored all of Central's points in the third quarter including a 3 pointer by Sillman with 2 seconds left, and the Eagles led 34-29 at the end of 3. Watertown led once, 37-36, in the fourth on Berry's third 3 pointer of the game. Central outscored the Arrows 13-2 the rest of the way. A pair of baskets by Sara Healy and one by freshman Rebecca Goodman gave the Eagles a 44-38 lead with 2:11 left and scored its final 5 points from the line.
