Golden Eagles Lose Heartbreaker to Stevens

One week after a heartbreaking loss to the Mitchell Kernals, the Golden Eagles were nipped again in a 48-45 overtime loss to Rapid City Stevens at the Arena in the Region IIAA finals. The game was tight throughout, with neither team opening up a lead of more than five points. Near the end of regulation, the Raiders appeared to have matters in hand with a three point lead and shooting freethrows with less than 20 seconds left to go. However, Stevens missed both free throws giving the Eagles a chance for heroics. The heroic effort was turned in by sophomore Dawn Sillman who hit a 3 pointer through tight defense from the corner, tying the game at 43 with 10 seconds to go. The Eagles then managed to steal the ball on the ensuing play giving Amy Fauth a breakaway layup attempt. Stevens managed to catch and foul Fauth on the shot with 3 seconds left in the game, but Fauth was unable to make either foul shot, sending the game into overtime. In the overtime period the size of Stevens led them to the three point win. The Eagles end the season 13-8.
