Four quarters of hustle was not enough to overcome a 37 percent shooting night as defending State AA champion Mitchell handed Central a 44-33 setback at the Civic Arena. The win, Mitchell's second over the Golden Eagles this season, lifts the Kernels to 7-4 while Central drops to 8-3. Mitchell built a 19-12 halftime lead and stayed in control in the third, leading 32-20 when it ended. Central did rally to pull within 34-28 with 3:55 left but Mitchell stifled the comeback on 4 straight freethrows by Melinda Oster and a jumper by Jill Theeler.
